Objective:

  • Teach your dog to weave through your legs.

Method:

  • Stand with your legs slightly apart and have treats ready in your hand.

  • Start with one leg in front of the other, and encourage your dog to go between them. Use the command “Weave” while luring them with a treat held in hand. As they successfully move in between your legs, mark the behavior with a click or a verbal cue like “Yes!” and reward them immediately.

  • Once your dog can successfully move between your legs, take a step forward and have your dog go through your legs again in the opposite direction. Repeat the process, using the command “Weave” and rewarding them as they learn to move in between your legs in sequence.

  • Progress to multiple legs by gradually increasing the challenge. Stand with your legs wider apart or slightly move as your dog weaves through. Once they are confident, practice moving forward while they weave through your legs, maintaining the command “Weave” and rewarding them for their success.

  • Add distractions once your dog is reliably weaving through your legs. Practice in different environments or with distractions to reinforce the behavior in various settings.

Tips & Troubleshooting:

  • If they skip a leg, slow down and guide them closely, ensuring they understand the direction.

  • If they seem confused, reduce the distance between your legs and practice with a more open stance to make it easier for them.
