Objective:
Teach your dog to walk beside you without pulling.
Method:
Use treats to keep your dog focused on you. Start walking and say “Heel” when they are beside you, marking and rewarding them.
Keep the treat close to your body to encourage them to stay in position.
If they start to pull, stop walking and wait for them to return to your side before continuing.
Gradually increase the distance you walk while maintaining their focus, rewarding them for staying in the correct position.
Practice turns, stops, and changes in pace to reinforce their ability to stay with you.
Tips & Troubleshooting:
If they pull ahead, stop walking until they return to your side. Start walking again once you have their full attention.
If they are distracted, practice in a quiet area with fewer distractions initially.
